International Women’s Day - A Wise Woman Builds Her House

For the last 2 years, visiting Uganda has been on my heart. Isaiah 60:22 tells us, “At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.”

Today is International Women’s Day (also known as “Women’s Day”) and what better time and place to celebrate than in Uganda with Gilgal Harvest Christian Fellowship (HCF).

Women from churches, along with their female Pastors in and around Kampala, were in attendance.

HCF’ s celebration focused on Proverbs 14:1: “The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands".

Today’s celebration included a personal testimony from Pastor Jessica. She focused on praying, being patient, not giving in to temptation, listening to HIS direction and his love and forgiveness.

This was followed by a skit of a marriage that was falling apart after the husband lost his job. Then, he turned to alcohol and adultery. He became abusive and demanded his wife and their 2 children to leave the home. The woman focused on trusting God in the midst of her troubles. She also received both spiritual and financial support from her second family, the church. When her husband returned, he saw the support the church provided and he was ashamed of his actions and he asked forgiveness. It is a reminder, that the “wise woman builds her house.”

The team also spent time with the children. All the children speak English so communicating was so different than what we are used to. They asked us many questions about America and we shared photos of our families which they really enjoyed. They are also all wonderful dancers!

We can’t end this blog without mentioning the delicious traditional Ugandan lunch they prepared for us. It included a traditional dish of mashed bananas that are cooked for 4 hours wrapped in banana leaves and served with a peanut sauce. It is so good!

The team is embracing this opportunity to learn the Ugandan culture. We will be back tomorrow for worship and to meet with our women’s group.
