Day 8 -Rest Day
Written by: Heidi Kittredge
The team visited the preschoolers in Gisenyi in the morning.
There are 64 kids attending school. The school fees, uniforms and teacher salaries are paid by the parents that are able to afford to send their children to school. Bishop Theophile’s prayer request is that another 86 children are able to attend school.
We shared “Can Jesus Really Hear My Prayers? and did a little bubble time. The team provided juice and biscuits.
The Team has been on the go since last Friday after landing at Kigali airport at 1:30 am and a few hours of sleep.
This afternoon was a time for the team to regroup and relax a bit. We toured Lake Kivu. It had been raining everyday this week. God was Good! No Rain!!
We passed by Kukabakobwa. A hundred years ago, unwed pregnant girls were left there as a punishment. We also passed a small fishing village.
Kukabakobwa.
As a surprise, we stopped at Nyamyumba Hot Springs. Jenn and I experienced the hot springs with a mud foot and leg massage.
We ended the day visiting the Rwandan/Congo border gates. I assure you we stayed on Rwandan land.
This was a much needed break as the team has been working hard and was feeling a bit “tired and broken”. We have seen a lot of famine and poverty. We have also seen hard working, resilient Christ following Rwandans who have shown us lots of love.
