Day 2 -Kimisagara Visit

Written by: Liz Henrich

What a wonderful day we had today! We visited the Child Hope Center in Kimisagara. We have made many friends there over our visits including children and their mothers. The children entertained us with a traditional Rwandan dance, beautiful singing, poems and what they have learned about the Bible. They have grown so much since last year, physically and intellectually. Their English is wonderful and they use it as much as they can.

We also shared the story of our dear friend, Jenisys, a 7 year old girl from Manchester, NH and her book, “Can Jesus Really Hear My Prayers?” We also met with our sponsor children and their moms. They are very grateful for the sponsorships!

In the afternoon we met with the women who have previously received savings bonuses through the women’s cooperatives. They elaborated on the impact this money has made on their lives. They have expanded their businesses and been able to save a percentage of their income. Some of these savings are shared with other members of their cooperative group to get new businesses started or to help a neighbor in need. God is active in this community! The women’s cooperative groups are life-changing for them. They get encouragement from each other and learn to work together. They are able to feed their families and take care of their health.

We also met with ladies who will be learning about the program and receiving micro loans to begin new businesses. They will receive training and encouragement and learn how to step out on their own. Their gratitude is overwhelming. The most important thing is that they are praising God for all the blessings they receive. To God be the glory!
